'I want to change that' - Goldson reveals ambitions at Rangers after sealing move
Rangers defender Connor Goldson has revealed that keeping clean sheets “as regularly as possible” is his first priority at Ibrox – but admits he hopes he Gers aim to play out from the back under Steven Gerrard.
Goldson agreed a move to Ibrox from Premier League Brighton last week and joined his new team-mates in Spain as they get put through their paces by Gerrard ahead of the new campaign.
The 6’4″ defender insisted that he likes “to play football” but admits that after seeing some of the Gers results last season. he wants to keep clean sheets “first and foremost.”
“First of all as a defender, I want to keep clean sheets,” Goldson said, as quoted by Rangers’ official website.
“I saw some of the results last season and there were a lot of goals conceded, so first and foremost, I want to change that and get clean sheets as regularly as possible.
“Also, I like to play football – I want the ball. We’ll see how the gaffer wants to play, and hopefully, we can play football from the back as that’s something I want to do.”

Football Insider verdict:
Rangers conceded far too many goals and can’t afford to be as easy to score against as they were last season. The signing of Goldson on Nikola Katic gives the Gers a much more physical presence in defence. Goldson is a no-nonsense defender – despite liking to play – and is just as comfortable launching a striker into row Z as he is with the ball at his feet. The former Brighton and Shrewsbury ace is almost certain to be a mainstay in the side although whether that’s beside Bruno Alves or Katic remains to be seen. Goldson is clearly excited by the prospect of playing for the Gers and hopefully, he can add some steel to a defence which has been sorely lacking in recent seasons. At 25, Goldson’s been around the houses before and should find his feet straight away when the competitive games get underway after a career spent working his way up through the leagues. Going to places like St. Johnstone on wet and windy nights won’t be any more of a culture shock than visiting Walsall in similar conditions.
