‘I want to play for Man United’ – Crystal Palace star’s confession opens door to transfer

Daniel Munoz’s latest comments around a potential move away from Crystal Palace should alert Man United to his availability in the January window.

Daniel Munoz has proven himself as one of the best full-backs the Premier League has to offer since he joined Crystal Palace from Genk in January 2024.

Munoz was linked to Barcelona and Man City in the most recent January window amid a season in which he registered six goals and eight assists in 46 games in all competitions.

He remained at Selhurst Park throughout the summer after winning the FA Cup and Community Shield, and has continued to impress this season with two goals and assists each in 19 games so far.

Chelsea are targeting a swoop for Munoz ahead of the new year, as revealed by Football Insider, but Man United should be the ones aiming to sign him after some surprising new comments.

Munoz names Man United as one of his ‘dream’ clubs to play for

Football Insider have also revealed that Palace will demand well over £25million for Munoz as Barcelona continue to be interested in his services alongside the Blues.

He has remained a key part of Oliver Glasner’s side amid doubts around his future, but was asked about the links to other clubs while on international duty for Colombia this week.

The 29-year-old has never been linked to Man United publicly, but he surprisingly named them as one of his targeted destinations in an interview with AS despite the lack of apparent previous interest, when asked about his aims for the future, saying: “First of all, I think there’s a lot of talk about one club or another.

“If you ask me, it would be a dream to play for one of these clubs, whether it’s Barcelona, PSG, Real Madrid, or Manchester United.

“I think I’m working towards that. I strive every day to one day attract the attention of one of these clubs, because for me, it’s a dream to get there.”

Munoz naming Man United alongside some of the biggest clubs in the world does come as a shock, considering the lack of any links to them and their years of struggles on the pitch despite their size.

He also played it coy when asked about January, but certainly did not indicate that a move away from the Eagles is off the table, saying: “If you ask me, I don’t have concrete information any of these clubs are interested in me.

“My focus is on Crystal Palace. We’ll see when the winter transfer window gets closer.”

Man United need wing-backs that suit Ruben Amorim’s system like Munoz

Ruben Amorim deploys a similar five-back formation to Glasner at Palace, and Munoz would be an absolutely ideal signing in January to propel them further up the table.

The right wing-back position has caused real debate at Old Trafford since Amorim was appointed, with the likes of Amad Diallo, Diogo Dalot, Patrick Dorgu and Noussair Mazraoui all being handed chances to impress there.

Amad’s suitability to play there has been questioned, but he has also arguably been the most impressive at right wing-back and so has started seven games in the position so far this season.

He is a winger by trade, though, and impressed as an attacking midfielder against Tottenham last time out, so the Red Devils need to sign a specialist for the role to really progress forward under Amorim.

Munoz is exactly that, with his output and performances proving that he absolutely has what it takes to play for a club with the prestige of United.

This latest reveal of his ‘dream’ clubs to play for should set the wheels in motion for Old Trafford chiefs to start talks over a move for him to join their club, but they face strong competition in Chelsea and Barcelona and so will have to act quickly and pay what Palace want.
