Ian Taylor delivers critical verdict after Aston Villa win against Burton

By Amir Mir

Ian Taylor stated on Twitter that Aston Villa were not good enough during their 2-1 win against Burton Albion on Boxing Day.

Former midfielder Taylor expressed the toughness of the game as Nigel Clough’s side produced a top quality performance in front of a sell-out crowd at Villa Park.

The home side took the lead in the first half when Leandro Bacuna headed home a magnificent cross from Albert Adomah.

Despite the opening goal, the visitors dominated proceedings in the first half and were duly rewarded when Jamie Ward levelled the scorings.

Steve Bruce’s side produced a better showing after the break and striker Ross McCormack, who had not scored since September, netted the winner 12 minutes from time.

Despite Villa picking up a much-needed three points for their promotion hopes, club legend Taylor posted this message on his personal Twitter account.

The three points on home soil have seen Bruce’s side move into the top ten of the Championship table.

They have overtaken second City rivals Birmingham, with Gianfranco Zola’s side taking on Derby County on Tuesday afternoon.

Additionally, the Midlands giants are also three points off the top six as they prepare for the visit of in-form Leeds on Thursday evening.

A win for the Yorkshire club at Villa Park could see them open up a ten point lead on the tenth placed Championship side.

In the latest Aston Villa news, club legend Paul McGrath had this to say about the Burton win.
