Villa are now three points off the final play-off spot which is currently being held by Sheffield Wednesday who take on leaders Newcastle on Monday evening.
Nonetheless, the win at Villa Park means, the Midlands giants have picked up five wins on the bounce on home soil.
They will take on fellow promotion chasers Leeds on Thursday evening, with Garry Monk’s side registering a 4-1 win at Preston on Boxing Day.
Bruce’s side have kept out the likes of Huddersfield, Newcastle and Wolves at home this season as they aim to do the same against Leeds.
The Yorkshire club won the reverse fixture 2-0 when Kemar Roofe and Chris Wood found the back of the net at Elland Road.
