Ian Taylor delivers Twitter verdict on reported 26-year-old Aston Villa target

By Will Butcher

Ian Taylor believes the potential signing of Henri Lansbury would improve Aston Villa “all day long”.

The Birmingham Mail reported that Villa had submitted an offer worth £3million for the Nottingham Forest captain, with fans desperate to see Steve Bruce complete a deal.

Former Aston Villa star Taylor replied to a fan on his personal Twitter account when asked if he believed Lansbury would be a good signing for the Midlands giants with an unequivocal answer.

According to the Birmingham Mail, Lansbury has already seen a bid for his services rejected this month, after Steve McClaren’s Derby side were knocked back in their efforts to sign him for £2.5million.

Villa’s bitter Championship rivals Birmingham are also said to be interested in Forest’s number 10, who could be tempted to jump ship with Forest in 20th place in the Championship.

Bruce’s side are crying out for a creative midfielder, as Ashley Westwood, Mile Jedinak and Gary Gardner all prefer to sit in front of the defence rather than join the attack.

The 16-time England Under-21 international has been a rare shining light in Philippe Montanier’s disappointing season at the City Ground this season.

Scoring six goals himself, Lansbury has also provided a further three strikes in 17 league and cup games including a hat-trick in the 5-2 win over Barnsley in November.

Taylor, who played for the Midlands giants between 1994 and 2003, made 296 league and cup appearances for the claret and blues in which he scored 43 goals.

In other Aston Villa news, this Premier League club are reportedly close to sealing a £2million deal with Villa.
