Club legend Ian Wright has urged Arsenal to play Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil against Sutton on Monday.

The Gunners are set to travel to the English football minnows for their FA Cup fifth round tie on Monday night, and Arsene Wenger is likely to make wholesale changes to his side.

However, former Arsenal striker Wright insists that Wenger has to keep both Sanchez and Ozil in the fold, and name a strong team.

In his column for the Sun, he admitted that the duo could not only reduce the risk of Sutton causing an upset, but it could also have benefits for their opponents.

He said: “I just hope that Arsene Wenger plays some of his real stars – Alexis Sanchez or Mesut Ozil.

“I’m pretty sure he will play a reasonably strong team, with international players, but it’s such a big night for Sutton that it could mean so much for them.

“They hire out the pitch to local clubs and kids teams – and if the youngsters can say, ‘I played on the same pitch as Alexis’, it would mean so much and inspire them.”

An appearance against Sutton could also allow the out-of-sorts Ozil to regain some of his creative mojo. The 28-year-old has come under siege for his lacklustre displays in recent weeks, and many fans have called for him to be dropped.

Sutton already upset the odds to knock Championship high-flyers Leeds out of the competition in the previous round, and they will be looking to thrown an even bigger spanner in the works against Arsenal.

Elimination at the hands of Sutton will be the last thing Wenger and Arsenal could possibly want, following their Champions League knockout-round drubbing by Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

Arsenal were thrashed 5-1 by the German champions, all but ending their prospects of silverware in Europe. With the north London club also 10 points adrift of Chelsea in the Premier League title race, the FA Cup perhaps remains their only realistic chance of success for what could be Wenger’s final season.
