Ian Wright delivers emphatic Twitter verdict on Arsenal display v Bayern Munich

By Matt Farr

Club legend Ian Wright was left raging on Twitter at Arsenal’s shambolic performance during their 5-1 defeat to Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

Arjen Robben, Robert Lewandowski, Thiago Alcantara (twice) and Thomas Muller were all on the scoresheet for the home side, as Arsenal once again saw their Champions League qualification hopes left in tatters in the Round of 16.

The former Arsenal striker took to his personal Twitter account during the game to describe the performance as shambolic, in emphatic, and colourful, fashion.

Despite being vastly overrun by the home side, Arsenal went into the half-time break in a decent position. The score was level, and their away goal would give them a major boost heading into the second-leg tie at the Emirates in March.

However, after captain Laurent Koscielny was forced off with an injury just minutes after the restart, Arsenal capitulated, conceding four second-half goals.

Arsene Wenger’s side now look certain to exit the competition at the hands of Bayern Munich for the third time in seven years.

It would also be the seventh successive season where they have failed to progress past the knockout stages of the competition.

With the north London club also 10 points behind leaders Chelsea in the Premier League title race, the FA Cup remains Arsenal’s only realistic chance of winning silverware this season, heaping further pressure on manager Wenger.

In other Arsenal news, fans have slated Alex Iwobi for his performance in the defeat to Bayern.
