Ian Wright delivers verdict on Tottenham penalty incident in win v Arsenal
By Matt Bullin
Arsenal legend Ian Wright has claimed Tottenham forward Harry Kane ‘made a meal’ of the challenge which won him a penalty in the North London derby.
Spurs won the final North London derby to be played at White Hart Lane 2-0, on Sunday, thanks to goals from Dele Alli and Harry Kane.
Kane scored from the spot, but there were questions raised over how he won the penalty, after going down in the area after a challenge from Gabriel.
Spurs’ win was their ninth on the spin in the Premier League, and they are one game away from going unbeaten at home for the whole season.
In his Sun column Wright criticised Leroy Sane and Marcus Rashford for diving to win their respective sides penalties over the weekend.

However, Wright believed Kane’s penalty was justified – despite him making the most of the contact: “The challenge involving Harry Kane at White Hart Lane probably deserved a penalty.
“But he definitely made a meal of it to make absolutely certain that Michael Oliver would point to the spot after he was clipped by Gabriel.”
Kane’s goal from the spot was his 21st in the Premier League of the season, in his 26th appearance.
The 17-time England international has also been in red-hot form in the cup competitions, and has bagged six goals in six Champions League and FA Cup games.
Tottenham’s win over Arsenal leaves them four points behind league leaders Chelsea with four games left to play.
Next up for Maurucio Pochettino’s side is a Friday night trip to the London Stadium to face West Ham.
