Ian Wright sends shock Marcus Rashford message amid new Arsenal reveal
Ian Wright has taken a different stance to fellow pundits and jumped to the defence of Marcus Rashford after his Man United quit reveal.
The 27-year-old was dropped from Man United’s squad for their last-gasp 2-1 win over bitter rivals Man City and was also excluded from their League Cup defeat to Tottenham on Thursday (December 19).
Rashford confessed to journalist Henry Winter after his omission from the Manchester derby that he was ready to leave his boyhood club, saying:
“It’s disheartening to be left out of a Derby, but it’s happened, we won the game so let’s move on. It’s disappointing but I’m also someone as I’ve got older I can deal with setbacks. What am I going to do about it? Sit there and cry about it. Or do my best the next time I’m available.
“For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps. When I leave it’s going to be ‘no hard feelings’. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person.”
The winger has struggled so far this season, starting 19 of his 24 games across all competitions, scoring seven goals, and providing three assists in 1500 minutes of action under three Man United managers.
Ian Wright still backs Marcus Rashford after the forward confessed to wanting out of Man United
Wright, 61, took a different stance to most experts by surprisingly backing Rashford and comparing his situation to when he first joined Arsenal.
The Arsenal legend took to Instagram to make his point, commenting on a post made by The Overlap, a podcast in which he features alongside Jill Scott, Roy Keane, Gary Neville, and Jamie Carragher, to add to the debate.
Wright said: “I got to Arsenal at 28, but you expect ME to write off someone with the ability Marcus has at 27!!!! So many of you are desperate to see these young people fail so that you can say you were right! You would take 1% of the career Marcus has had!”

The former striker became Arsenal’s all-time top goalscorer despite joining the club at 28, scoring 182 goals before eventually losing top-spot to Theirry Henry (228).
According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal had previously been interested in Rashford but are now reluctant to pursue a deal for the forward due to the costs involved.
