Ibrahima Konate ‘must’ve felt so stupid’ as Liverpool fans howl at iconic moment vs Nottingham Forest

Liverpool supporters could not stop laughing after footage of Ibrahima Konate emerged during the clash with Nottingham Forest.

In what was Vitor Pereira’s first Premier League game in charge, the Reds were absolutely crushed by Alexis Mac Allister‘s 97th-minute winner at the City Ground on Sunday, 22 February.

The Argentine thought he had scored the only goal just five minutes before, only to see it chalked off for handball, with yet more controversy emerging on the River Trent.

All three points took Arne Slot‘s side to within touching distance of the Champions League spots, outside the top four on goal difference, and it was clear just how much it meant to all the Liverpool players.

However, it was the celebrations after Mac Allister’s ruled-out goal that caught the most attention.

Ibrahima Konate stuns with Liverpool celebrations

Despite all the rumours about his future, Konate clearly still has a lot of love for the club, busting out a cartwheel in the middle of the pitch after what Liverpool thought was a late winner.

Supporters were in total disbelief at the France international, with one saying, “I couldn’t believe my eyes,” with multiple laughing emojis, while another predicted that “he must’ve felt so stupid”.

Another fan said there would be a “public execution” had his celebration ended in injury, but for the most part, fans found the funny side of his actions before the goal was disallowed.

What is the situation with Konate’s future at Anfield?

Football Insider understands that Liverpool would love to keep Konate, but there is very little movement when it comes to a contract extension with the Reds beyond the end of the season.

The 26-year-old’s current deal runs until the summer, with reports heavily linking him with a move to Real Madrid.

Slot has confirmed that the club remain in talks with Konate over a new deal, and after five years at Anfield, it would be a shame to see his time on Merseyside come to an end.

He clearly still loves the Reds.
