Exclusive: Hutton believes Rangers 18-yr-old dazzling Gerrard after offer rejected
Alan Hutton believes that Rangers youngster Dapo Mebude has been dazzling manager Steven Gerrard behind the scenes after a loan move was turned down.
The former Gers defender and boyhood fan of the club, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says that the 18-year-old attacker has clearly caught the eye on the training ground.
Cowdenbeath manager Gary Bollan revealed that they had made a move to sign the teenage striker on a temporary basis but were rebuffed in their efforts, stating the Glasgow giants wanted to keep him “close at hand”.
Hutton says that Gerrard will be wary of injuries and suspensions in the first-team and that Mebude has obviously shown something special in training.
Asked about Bollan’s revelation, Hutton told Football Insider: “I seen that, it looks like they turned it down because they see him being in and about the first-team squad.
“Obviously there’s been injuries there and they’ll need people involved. He’s obviously shown the manager something that he likes and he can obviously trust him if he was needed to come in and play.

“You have to weigh it up, is it worth him going to a team like that and is he going to develop there or is he going to develop better where he is? Obviously Steven Gerrard seems the latter one is better is for him.
“They’ve knocked it back so let’s hope he can push on and really develop as a first-team player.”
Mebude, a Scotland under-19 international, has featured just once for the first-team at Rangers, playing 27 minutes against Kilmarnock last season.
He has been a regular for the club’s development side this term, scoring the opener in the 2-1 defeat to Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the Challenge Cup earlier this month.
