‘I’d choose Newcastle’ – Le Tissier warns Sesko over Man United move

Matt Le Tissier revealed why Benjamin Sesko might be making a mistake by signing for Man United over Newcastle.

The former England and Southampton striker told Football Insider exclusively that Rasmus Hojlund‘s plight at Old Trafford acted as a warning to the Slovenian striker.

Newcastle made a move for Sesko with one month left of the transfer window, and returned with a second bid for the RB Leipzig worth £69.7million [Sky Sports] on 5 August.

However, the striker preferred a move to Manchester and has agreed terms to join Ruben Amorim’s side.

The Red Devils cannot offer European football after finishing 15th last season and losing to Tottenham in the Europa League final, but that has not stopped Sesko from turning down a move to the North East.

Man United pressure is ‘unbelievable’

This article contains exclusive comment from former Southampton and England striker Matt Le Tissier.

Despite the allure of joining the 20-time champions of England, United’s recent track record has been dismal by their lofty standards.

And speaking to Football Insider exclusively, Le Tissier revealed that he would join Newcastle if he were in Sesko’s position, warning that the pressure and need to be immediately successful was “unbelievable”, whilst also pointing towards Hojlund’s struggles at Man United as a cautionary tale.

He said: “I think from all the noises going around, I think he ends up at United. From what we’re hearing, he’s more keen on that move than the Newcastle one.

“If a player’s got a desire and the money’s there and there’s decent figures they’re talking about, then that’s what normally gets done.

“I think when you look at all the pros and cons, I think right at this moment in time, I’d probably choose Newcastle United with Champions League football, number one.

“And I think you also got probably a little less pressure at Newcastle than you would be under at Man United.

“The need to be immediately successful at Man United is unbelievable. We’ve seen what happened with Hojlund.

“[If] you don’t get off to a good start. You don’t score goals straight away. You start getting criticized. You find yourself on the subs bench very quickly.

“It’s tough. At Newcastle, you’d probably get a little bit more slack as well.”

Marc Guehi ‘wants Liverpool move’ amid Newcastle interest

Having missed out on the majority of their targets this summer, another player seems to be slipping through the Magpies’ grasp.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Mick Brown revealed that Marc Guehi wants a move to Liverpool, despite Newcastle’s interest.

As a consequence, Eddie Howe‘s side will likely turn their attention to Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke instead.

The Netherlands international joined the Seagulls in the summer of 2021 and has gone on to make 91 appearances for the South Coast side.
