Alan Hutton suggests that Alfredo Morelos has set his sights on joining a “bigger team” than West Brom if he is to leave Rangers this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Gers and Scotland defender believes the 24-year-old will be on his way before the end of the transfer window but questions whether he would want a move to the newly-promoted Premier League side.
As revealed by Football Insider, the Baggies have been in contact with the Gers about a potential transfer deal for the Colombian this summer.
There has been plenty of speculation over Morelos’ future at Ibrox and French outfit Lille had discussed a £17million deal earlier this summer.
Hutton believes the striker’s days in Glasgow are numbered but admits he thinks the hitman will have bigger aspirations than the Baggies.
Asked if West Brom would be a tempting move for Morelos, Hutton told Football Insider: “Erm, this is a difficult one. I think probably, in his mind, he’s looking for a bigger team, if I’m totally honest.
“This speculation’s never going to go away, I think Morelos will leave at some point, it’s just who puts in the money that Rangers are willing to take and then it’s up to the player, which team he wants to go to.
“I totally understand their interest but from a Morelos point of view, I’m wondering if he’s wanting to aim a little higher.”
Morelos has scored 79 goals in 142 appearances for Rangers to date but has come under fire for his discipline both on and off the pitch.
He has netted two goals in four games this season, both of which came in the win over St Mirren.
