Igor Tudor has two matches left to save Tottenham job after draw vs Liverpool

Tottenham Hotspur are set to afford interim manager Igor Tudor further time to steady the ship, sources have told Football Insider.

The Lilywhites’ 1-1 draw with Liverpool on Sunday is said to have been seen as a step in the right direction by the club hierarchy, and they are now prepared to give the boss some breathing room.

Tudor is set to be in charge of the team for at least the Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid on Tuesday and the crucial meeting with Nottingham Forest next weekend, although sources say that clash could still be decisive for him.

Tottenham’s managerial situation has faced plenty of pressure of late, but their draw with Liverpool saw them bring their five-game losing run to an end in the Premier League.

Igor Tudor left with few options vs Atletico Madrid

The Tottenham board have already identified the upcoming clash with Forest as a game that has the potential to decide their season.

The two sides are separated by just one point in the battle against the drop at the moment, and next Sunday’s visitors to North London are winless in their last seven league outings.

Spurs’ 5-2 drubbing away at Atletico in the first leg of their Champions League clash last week has left their hopes of progression lying in tatters, but the boss has little room to rest any players in that game.

Micky van de Ven will be available to play both games this week after he missed the draw with Liverpool due to suspension, while Cristian Romero and Joao Palhinha could both return after missing Sunday in accordance with the concussion protocol.

Spurs are hoping that their point last weekend can give Tudor and his players a platform to build from in order to help pull them away from the bottom three in the coming weeks, and avoid them having to make another change.

Tottenham face lack of alternatives

Football Insider recently revealed that Sean Dyche would be unwilling to take the reins at Tottenham between now and the end of the season due to the short-term nature of the job.

The former Forest and Everton boss’ experience of fighting against relegation looked set to make him an ideal candidate, but a move for him is now thought to be beyond the Lilywhites’ reach.

The capital club have been linked with a huge range of different options in recent weeks, but it is clear that they are trying to stick with Tudor for as long as possible.

Sunday’s stalemate was a welcome result for Tottenham, and there is now hope within the club that Tudor could yet be the man to help steer them to safety.
