Igor Tudor set to leave Tottenham by ‘mutual consent’ within days

Igor Tudor is set to leave Tottenham Hotspur by mutual consent in the near future as they accelerate plans to replace the boss during the international break.

The 47-year-old’s tenure in North London has not gone to plan after he was brought in to replace Thomas Frank with the goal of guiding them away from relegation.

After a heavy 3-0 defeat to relegation rivals Nottingham Forest last time out, Spurs remain just one point above the bottom three and rivals West Ham.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Tudor accepts that his appointment has not gone to plan and is prepared to leave.

That will leave Tottenham scrambling to appoint a new manager, with a number of options both short-term and long-term being assessed behind the scenes.

Igor Tudor close to leaving Tottenham

Football Insider revealed on 24 March that Tottenham are planning to sack Tudor, and while the decision has been delayed, it remains part of their plans.

The interim boss has won just one of his seven games in charge, and picked up just one point in the Premier League, as he has failed to lead them to safety.

The international break is seen as the ideal opportunity to bring in a replacement ahead of Spurs’ next league game against Sunderland on 12 April.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Yeah, it does look like it’s inevitable that Tudor will lose his job during the international break.

“Maybe not ‘sacked’ necessarily, I think there’ll be a mutual consent agreement that it hasn’t worked out for either party.

“They’ve just won one of his seven games in charge and are one point above the relegation zone.

“So he hasn’t had the desired effect that Tottenham thought he would do when they brought him in as an interim manager until the end of the season.”

Who could Spurs appoint to replace Tudor?

Work is already underway to identify the next Tottenham manager, despite having initially planned to assess the situation in the summer after Tudor’s departure.

His imminent early dismissal has forced the club to accelerate their plans, with the likes of Roberto De Zerbi emerging as candidates for the position.

However, former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider that Tottenham could “settle on” Sean Dyche to drag them away from trouble this late in the season.

The boss’ previous experience of guiding relegation-threatened clubs away from trouble at Everton and Burnley has made him a key option.

There are doubts about whether he would be prepared to take the job, though, having left Nottingham Forest just last month as he was replaced by Vitor Pereira.
