Rangers defender Jon Flanagan believes that knowing a few of the players already at Ibrox will help him settle with the Gers – but admits that he thinks he will “bed in well” with the Gers.
The 25-year-old became the Gers seventh signing of the summer after agreeing a two-year deal with the Light Blues and has already joined his new teammates at their training camp in Spain.
Flanagan knows Jordan Rossiter from Anfield and Scott Arfield from a loan spell with Burnley and admits it is “always good” to have some familiar faces at a new club.
“I think it is always good when you go to a new team if you know a few of the lads. But, I think, even if I didn’t know them, I’m a likeable character and I’ll bed in well with all the lads,” Flanagan said, as quoted by Rangers’ official website.
Football Insider verdict:
Footballers are no different than normal people and having a familiar face is always a help when settling in somewhere. Knowing Gerrard and his coaching staff from Anfield will also help Flanagan settle as he tries to make an impact at Ibrox. With Flanagan’s injury problems, having people around that he knows and trusts will be something that will have an influence on his mentality and give him an established support network if something goes wrong. The defender’s off-field problems will also be brought to the fore in Scotland and having the likes of Gerrard around, who has known the player for years, will help him deal with the criticism that is sure to come his way. It might just be what Flanagan needs to get his career back on track after a horrific three or four years on and off the pitch looked like leaving the defender scrambling to salvage it.
