Exclusive: Darren Bent verdict on Liverpool being handed title amid new PL update
Darren Bent claims Liverpool can’t just be handed the Premier League title if the season ends up being cancelled – and he’s “certain” they won’t be.
The Premier League announced this morning they have agreed to suspend all matches until at least 4 April with immediate effect.
This puts Liverpool’s title hopes up in the air at a time when they could have sealed the trophy in record time, as early as next Monday.

Bent claimed it would be demean the integrity of the competition for Liverpool to be handed the title amid the doomsday possibility of there being no more matches this season.
This comes after the Premier League changed tack with their announcement today, after releasing a statement last night insisting this weekend’s fixtures would go ahead.
“I don’t think you can hand them the title,” Bent told Football Insider. “I don’t think that’s right. As brilliant as they are, you’ve still got to go out and earn it.

“Everyone knows they’re going to win the Premier League, but at the same time you just don’t know what could happen.
“For all we know, Liverpool could go and lose every game between now and the end of the season.
“I’m certain they won’t, but you can’t just give them the title because of unforeseen circumstances, and I’m sure a lot of teams would say the same thing.
“It is a worrying state of affairs. You just wonder what the measures are going to be over here.”
The temporary shelving of matches comes at a time when Liverpool are an enormous 25 points clear at the top of the table.
