'I'm choosing Newcastle United' - Agbonlahor can't believe Harvey Barnes news

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Harvey Barnes should not join Tottenham as they prepare to rival Newcastle for his signature this summer.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Magpies have a better chance of winning silverware – and also suggested the 25-year-old would struggle for game time at Spurs.

Sources told this site on 13 April that interested clubs will have to pay Leicester a fee of £50million for Barnes this summer.

Tottenham and Newcastle are among the sides ready to pounce for the England international as the Foxes flirt with relegation to the Championship.

Barnes has notched 10 goals and three assists in 34 appearances across all competitions this season.

Spurs sit fifth in the Premier League, three points behind Newcastle having played a game more than the Magpies.

The two sides face off at St James’ Park on Sunday (23 April).

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I wouldn’t go to Spurs if I was Barnes.

“I’d go to a club where you’re guaranteed to start from the off.

“At Spurs, you’ve got Kulusevski, Kane and Son as that front three – they’re always going to start.

“Also, if I’m given the choice of Tottenham and Newcastle at the moment – I’m choosing Newcastle.

“It’s a more exciting project that will likely have Champions League football next season. Newcastle are also more likely to win trophies before Spurs.

“If I’m Maddison, Barnes, anyone – I’m choosing Newcastle.”
