Darren Bent believes that Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce could make the shock decision to walk away from the club regardless of whether the proposed takeover takes place.
The former Sunderland and Tottenham striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, claims the speculation surrounding a “crazy” offer for Mauricio Pochettino is disrespectful to the current man in the dugout.
As reported by Sky Sports, Newcastle’s prospective new owners are prepared to offer the Argentine £19million-a-year – equivalent to £365,000-a-week – after identifying him as their top managerial target.

As revealed by Football Insider, the former Spurs boss would be keen on holding talks over potentially joining the Magpies under new ownership, with initial talks likely to take place this month.
However, Bent believes people should be showing Bruce more credit for what he has done this season and suggests he could quit whether a takeover takes place or not.
Asked about Pochettino’s proposed wages, Bent told Football Insider: “It is absolutely crazy but I mean the takeover’s not happened yet, has it?
“I just think first and foremost Steve Bruce must be thinking to himself: ‘Hold on a second here, I’ve done a reasonably good job and people are just completely dismissing me!’
“If we get back to playing football and the takeover doesn’t happen, he’d be well within his rights to go: ‘You know what, no thanks, I’ve had enough of it and I’m out of here.’
“The lack of respect shown by the club, talking about the takeover, the new owners and the managers they want, and even some of the supporters have got really, really carried away with saying they want Poch and all this – they’ve got a man who is still in charge there.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if one day he just went: ‘I’ve had enough of this’ and just walked away.”
Boyhood Newcastle fan Bruce took charge of the Magpies last summer and has them sitting 13th in the Premier League table this season.
Pochettino meanwhile has been out of work since November after being sacked by Tottenham.
In other Newcastle United news, it can be REVEALED that the club are ready to blow Tottenham out of the water to sign attacking star.
