Ian Wright makes bold claim about Tottenham after win v Real Madrid

By Russell Edge

Former Arsenal midfielder Ian Wright has said that Tottenham were better than Real Madrid in every way during their 3-1 win over the Spanish giants on Wednesday.

A double for Dele Alli, playing his first European match after supension, and a well taken goal from Christian Eriksen gave Spurs a comfortable lead at Wembley and despite conceding a goal to Cristiano Ronaldo in the last 15 minutes, Mauricio Pochettino’s men never looked like giving up their lead.

The victory was the first ever win over Los Blancos for the Lilywhites, and the three points secured a place in the last-16 of the Champions League after Borussia Dortmund and Apoel Nicosia drew in the other group game.

Speaking after the match former Gunner Wright made the bold claim that Spurs had played to perfection against the reigning champions of Europe, insisting that they were better than the visitors from top to bottom.

He told 5 live Sport on BBC Radio 5 live (01/11, 19:45): “For me today Spurs, the tempo, the technical ability, the intensity of them, they (Real Madrid) couldn’t get near them.

“They played it perfectly. Spurs were better than them in every department tonight, it was very impressive.”

The win means Spurs have returned to winning ways after two successive defeats to West Ham, in the League Cup, and to Manchester United on Saturday, with defeat leaving them eight points behind league leaders Manchester City.

They will be full of confidence going into their next league match which sees them face off against fellow London side and basement club Crystal Palace, who rescued a last second draw to West Ham in their last outing.
