'Incredible' - Exclusive: Phillips reacts to huge Leeds offer

Kevin Phillips insisted it would be “an incredible travesty” if Marcelo Bielsa did not sign a new contract at Leeds United this summer.

The former England international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed that the 64-year-old will be a “massive draw” for potential signings in the upcoming transfer window.

Bielsa will be out of contract on 1 August having signed a two-year deal when he arrived in 2018 but Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani is desperate to tie the Argentine down to a new contract.

Football Insider revealed on Monday that the club are set to offer Bielsa a deal in excess of £100,000-a-week amid their return to the Premier League.

The former Athletic Bilbao manager has averaged a staggering 1.85 points-per-game since his arrival in 2018.

When asked by Football Insider if his contract was the most important deal that the Whites could do this summer, Phillips said:

“It would be an incredible travesty if he was to get them promoted and then, all of a sudden, walk out and go somewhere else.

“For me, that is probably the most important deal to get done. For two reasons. One, for the football club and what he has done.

“Two, being that draw for players. They will want to come and play for him. The manager and the style of football he has implemented there is a massive draw.

“We all know what atmosphere can be created there, it is an awesome place to play football and if you are playing for Bielsa as well… It is vital to get him tied down.”
