Injury blow means key forward set to miss Apoel v Tottenham
By Russell Edge
Tottenham have been handed a major boost ahead of their Champions League clash against Apoel Nicosia after the Cypriot side provided an injury update on star attacker Lorenzo Ebecilio.
The versatile 26-year-old winger has appeared in all 10 of Apoel’s fixtures this season but was forced off in the first half of their match against Aris Limassol on Friday with what appeared to be a hamstring injury.
Just days before Spurs travel to Cyprus for their European tie, Apoel confirmed on their official Twitter account that a scan on Ebecilio had shown he suffered a grade one muscle strain, which is likely to keep him out of Tuesday’s match.
The tweet translates to: “Grade I was diagnosed in Ebecilio’s physiotherapy program (sic)”
Able to operate on either flank or as an attacking midfielder, the Dutch attacker has picked up two assists this season, while he has scored twice in his 21 appearances across all competitions for the club.
He has 19 games worth of experience in European competitions, having appeared for his former side Ajax in both the Europa League and Champions League.
Tottenham will also have on of their key players absent on Tuesday night with Dele Alli set to miss his second game of a three match suspension in Europe.
In other Tottenham news, Sky Sports’ pundits have been tearing into Alli after his showing against West Ham.
