Injury expert warns of 'smoke and mirrors' as Liverpool confirm Thiago Alcantara update

Liverpool are streets ahead of other Premier League clubs when it comes to their injury updates.

That is according to injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine as well as data analysis.

On 20 September, Liverpool shared an update on some of their injured stars.

The club confirmed Thiago would miss both of the Reds’ games this week after suffering a knock against Crystal Palace.

The Reds cruised through in the EFL Cup with a 3-0 win over Norwich and face an away trip to Brentford at the weekend.

Dinnery revealed praised the club’s openness regarding injuries but warned they are only sharing the information the club want fans to know.

“What we need to understand is we are hearing what the club wants us to hear,” Dinnery told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“We always need to be careful about taking everything as gospel. There is a lot of smoke and mirrors in football.

“When it comes to Liverpool and the updates they release, yes, very good. They are streets ahead of other clubs.

“That’s great for fans, they understand the supporter element. They want to keep the fans up to speed.

“It also stops that speculation and the sensationalised headlines about the length of an injury.

“In a time of social media, a lot of players are sharing updates. We saw with Harvey Elliott, within hours he was sharing updates on Instagram.

Liverpool are joint top of the Premier League after five games.

Thiago has made four appearances in the competition this season.
