Thomas Christiansen has delivered Leeds United a massive boost by revealing that midfielder Ronaldo Vieira is nearing a return to the starting XI.
The 19-year-old has been out of action after picking up an injury in the 2-1 away win against Burton Albion on Boxing Day, and after missing the draw against Nottingham Forest there were fears Vieira could have been set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
However, the Whites boss quashed those worries and told BBC Radio Leeds that the player was close to training with the first team: “I believe next week he will train with the team.”
It could mean that the England U20 international will make his return to the side for Leeds’ Championship game against Ipswich on January 13.
After the 0-0 draw at Elland Road on Monday, the Yorkshire club slipped to sixth in the Championship table and now have Sheffield United and Middlesbrough breathing down their necks in pursuit of the final play-off spot.
