Insider claims Tottenham have found the next Carrick in 'brilliant' youngster Pochettino 'loved'

Tottenham have the next Michael Carrick on their hands in the form of Jamie Bowden.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Oldham Athletic loanee Bowden, 20, scored a brilliant long-range effort as his side lost 2-1 to Exeter City on Saturday.

The midfielder will spend the full season on loan with Latics and has made 15 appearances in all competitions so far this season.

Wenham has been impressed by what he’s seen from the youngster and drew comparisons to former Spurs man Carrick.

“I love him as a player,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I first came across him a few years ago. He was 16 but playing for the Under 18s.

“He’s a deep-lying playmaker. The most similar player I have seen to him in recent years is Michael Carrick.

“He sits right in that holding midfield role and has a brilliant eye for a pass.

“Poch loved him and called him up to train with the first team a few times.

“He also let him take part in a few pre-season friendlies. He had some bad injuries and sort of fell out of favour a bit.

“I think he should have gone on loan a year earlier than he has. As soon as he went to Oldham and was in straight away.

“That is clearly due to his quality in training, there was no settling in period for him at all.

“I’m delighted for him and the goal he scored at the weekend was unbelievable.”
