Insider hails 'brilliant' update on Tottenham star Lloris today

Hugo Lloris is still improving at Tottenham and the club must agree a new deal with him.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

On Monday (6 December) The Athletic reported there is “quiet confidence” a new deal can be agreed between Tottenham and Lloris.

The 34-year-old is out of contract in the summer of 2022 and Football Insider has been told by a Spurs source today that talks over an extension have taken place.

He hasn’t missed a minute of Premier League football this season.

Wenham insists Tottenham have more pressing issues than trying to replace an “elite” goalkeeper.

“This is brilliant news,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I am completely behind this. I think the goalkeepers we have been linked with aren’t better than Lloris.

“The goalkeeper position does not need an overhaul. Lloris still has years left in him at the top level.

“His form is actually improving and goalkeepers can go on much longer than outfield players.

“He’s also our club captain and he’s still an elite player. I would love to see him hang around long enough to win a trophy with us.

“He’s also our club captain and he’s still an elite player.

“It would be a great shame if he left without winning anything after all his years of service.

“I hope we can come to an agreement. There are far more important issues at the club than trying to replace a World Cup-winning goalkeeper and our club captain.”

Lloris could be offered a testimonial at the end of the season following 10 years of service at Tottenham.

He has made 388 appearances for Spurs.

In other news, 24-year-old is “100 per cent” planning to quit Tottenham in January.
