Insider issues update on Davies starting Tottenham clash against Leeds after latest

Ben Davies is high on confidence and will keep his place in the Tottenham side for Sunday’s game against Leeds.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Davies, 28, scored his first international goal on Saturday as Wales cruised to a 5-1 win over Belarus.

The left-back has started as a left-sided centre back in Antonio Conte’s first two games in charge of Spurs, despite being ostracised by Nuno Espirito Santo.

Wenham insists Davies will keep his place this weekend but he isn’t reading too much into his international goal.

“Davies, at the moment, is one of Conte’s preferred three at the back,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He’s also high on confidence after scoring his first international goal last week.

“Will he be fine to do a job against Leeds at home? Probably. The last time we played Leeds at home we didn’t look like conceding.

“I’m sure he will play in that game. In better games, I’m not so sure.

“He can get away with it against sides like Leeds but you have to remember how he played against Manchester United.

“Even in Conte’s first game against Vitesse he was all over the place and should have given away a penalty.

“He has been awful this season, I have said as much on here.

“Very often in international football, you come up against Malta or San Marino.

“You don’t really play against that Premier League opposition.

“So while I’m glad Davies got that goal, it’s not convinced me he has a place in this team going forward long term.”
