Insider reveals Tottenham stance on re-signing Vinicius after being 'shocked'

Tottenham didn’t sign Carlos Vinicius permanently as there are youth strikers who are just as good.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Tottenham chose not to sign Vinicius, 26, after his loan spell from Benfica finished after an underwhelming season in North London.

The hitman scored 10 goals in 22 total outings for Spurs last season.

Three of those came in the FA Cup against non-league Marine FC with another six coming in nine Europa League appearances.

Tottenham have struggled in front of goals this season, only scoring four Premier League goals.

Wenham insists he can’t believe some Tottenham fans have been wondering why the club didn’t sign Vinicius permanently as backup to Harry Kane.

“There were some questions over why we did’t sign Vinicius,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Especially because we didn’t sign another striker. The answer is simply that he fell well below the required standards.

“The goal record wasn’t flattering. He scored a few against Marine in the FA Cup but he gave us nothing in the league.

“He just wasn’t good enough. I was a bit shocked to see some of our fans wanting him back.

“We have strong young players who can do just as good a job. Vinicius’ Tottenham career is over.”

Vinicius is now on loan at PSV Eindhoven.

However, he is yet to score in five outings.

In other news, one Spurs star is “disgusted” by Daniel Levy and wants to leave in January.
