Insider: Scarlett could leave Tottenham as 'impressive' potential signing visits Hotspur Way

The potential signing of Joshua Ajayi will allow Dane Scarlett to leave Tottenham in the summer.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

As per Ryan Taylor (8 January), Tottenham have invited Ramsgate striker Ajayi to go on trial with them this week.

The 19-year-old, formerly of Crystal Palace, has scored 17 goals this season.

If Ajayi joins permanently, Wenham claims this will allow Scarlett to seal a much-needed loan spell away from the club.

“In all honesty, I don’t know too much about Ajayi,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I know he was at Palace so some of our lads have probably played against him at some point.

“He has clearly found his feet in the lower league and has registered some very impressive numbers.

“It makes sense for Tottenham to invite him over for a trial. Let’s see how good he is and what he can offer us.

“From next season Dane Scarlett can go out on loan and my hope is Tottenham will line up a deal where he can leave as soon as the summer starts on loan to a League One club.

“That leaves a space in our Under 23s’ and maybe Ajayi is someone who can come in and fill that.”

Scarlett has made eight senior appearances for Spurs and has scored one goal.

This season he made four appearances in the Europa Conference League.

In other news, a pundit claims Daniel Levy is a ‘liar’ and insists Conte is the latest Tottenham manager to be ’embarrassed’ by the Spurs chief.
