Insider shares chances of Tottenham signing Coutinho this summer after 'fee already agreed'

Tottenham do not have an agreement with Barcelona that will allow them to sign Coutinho at the end of the season.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

On Friday (7 January), Aston Villa confirmed the signing of Coutinho from Barcelona on loan until the end of the season.

On the same day, Catalan outlet Què T’hi Jugues reported Tottenham have agreed a deal with Barcelona, giving them the option to buy Coutinho for £33million at the end of the season.

This report was shared around on social media as some Spurs fans, including Wenham, were left baffled.

“I really don’t think Villa would agree as part of their loan for another team to have first refusal on signing Coutinho,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“What? Coutinho can go to Villa but at the end of the season Tottenham can just swoop in?

“It sounds like a first refusal or something similar with a fee already agreed. I am certain Villa would not sign him if that was part of the deal.

“There were plenty of reports saying we wanted Coutinho and I would love us to get him.

“I watched him tear us apart as part of the Bayern team that beat us 7-2 a few years ago.

“He would have been a really good signing and fair play to Villa for getting it done.

“But I’m sure there is absolutely no chance that first refusal exists.”

Tottenham are yet to make a signing this month.

They are next in action tonight (12 January) against Chelsea in the League Cup
