Insider shares emphatic verdict as Tottenham break near-20 year record

Tottenham fans should not read too much into a record-breaking stat their side achieved against Everton.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

As per WhoScored, Tottenham failed to register a shot on target as they drew 0-0 at Goodison Park on Sunday.

This means the club have now gone 227 minutes without a shot on target in the Premier League.

Opta also claim this is the first time Spurs have failed to have a shot on target in consecutive league games since records began in 2003.

Wenham admits this is an “awful” stat but insisted there were positives to take from the game.

“I certainly saw some improvements,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Give me a 0-0 at Goodison over the recent 3-0 drubbings any day of the week.

“I do appreciate that stat. Having said that, we hit the post at the end of the game.

“Reguilon had a really good chance but unfortunately scooped over and Emerson Royal had a good chance as well.

“Stat companies are going into overdrive with Tottenham at the moment.

“I know it’s their job to get likes and retweets from rivals fans, that’s just what they do.

“At the end of the day, what is better? Five shots on target from outside the box that are easily saved or a curling effort that hits the post but leaves the keeper beaten?

“I’m not too disappointed really. It’s obviously an awful stat but it’s not the be-all and end-all.

“I certainly saw some positives.”
