Insider shares 'weird' Romero claim that's 'true' after Tottenham latest

John Wenham has delivered a “damning” verdict on the Tottenham attack amid more praise for Cristian Romero.

Spurs insider Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels, hailed the dfeender’s performance against Man United.

Romero, 23, signed for Tottenham in the summer and has been largely praised during his six Premier League outings.

The defender started at the heart of the defence in Saturday’s 3-0 loss to Manchester United.

Wenham admits it’s “weird” to praise a defender after a loss but claims Romero once again proved why he will be considered one of the best defenders in the league by the end of the season.

“Romero was outstanding against Manchester United,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“That sounds weird to say after a 3-0 defeat but it’s true. I think Romero will be classed as one of the Premier League’s best defenders by the end of this season.

“Romero was our best player, by far. His reading of the game is so good.

“I actually think he did well up against Edinson Cavani, a player I rate very, very highly.

“It seems like every week I’m saying Romero is the best player on the pitch.

“That’s damning on our forwards.

“Hopefully, after the Everton game, we can be talking about one of the attackers being vital.

“I’m just happy we have a proper centre-back who the players and the fans can trust to do a job.”
