Insider: Tottenham close to agreeing ‘outstanding’ Skipp deal with major pay hike

Oliver Skipp is in line for a new Tottenham contract after his “outstanding” progress this season.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Skipp, 21, has made 23 appearances for Spurs in all competitions this season.

He spent last season on loan at Norwich in the Championship but has seamlessly taken to life in the Premier League.

He has been a permanent fixture under Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte with the latter taking an “instant liking” to the midfielder, as per Wenham.

As a result of his performances this season, Wenham insists a new deal is in the offing for Skipp.

“I’m sure a new contract isn’t far off,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“That will just be to reward him for the progress he has made this season.

“Tottenham have an incentive-based contract situation. That’s why we saw Harry Winks sign four new deals in an 18-month period when he first broke into the team.

“Each contract would add on another year and also increase that wage as well.

“It won’t be long until Skipp is rewarded for his outstanding progress with a new deal.

“He’s already one of the first names on the team sheet and it will be richly deserved.”

Skipp’s current deal runs until the summer of 2024.

He signed his last extension in July 2020.
