Insider: Tottenham sensation Donley set to change team next month in unusual twist

Joe Donley has a very bright future at Tottenham and is so precocious he changes national teams every month.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

The Guardian named Donley, 16, as Tottenham’s best first-year scholar in their annual list of top young talents.

The centre forward has scored five goals in five games so far this season in the Under 18 Premier League.

Wenham has tipped a very bright future for Donley after impressing for both England and Northern Ireland at youth level.

“The Guardian do this list every year,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“It’s only evaluated on first-year scholars. It is still a highly prestigious award to win.

“Our recent winners have been Oliver Skipp, Troy Parrott and Harvey White.

“Now it’s Donley. He’s a left-footed forward who plays for both England and Northern Ireland at youth level.

“He was born in Northern Ireland but is involved in both setups. He plays one month for one and one month for the other.

“It would appear he hasn’t made his mind up on who to represent. He went away with the Northern Ireland Under 19s in the last break and scored twice in two 1-0 wins over the Faroe Islands.

“This time he is away with England Under 17s. The future is very bright for Jamie.”

Donley’s five goals in the Under 18 Premier League mean he has scored in every game he’s played.

He can also play on the right-wing and in an attacking midfield role.
