Insider: Tottenham told to accept permanent Clarke offer

Tottenham will be glad to hear reports of Championship clubs queueing up to sign Jack Clarke in January.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Clarke, 20, joined Tottenham from Leeds United in a deal worth up to £13m in July 2019.

However, during his time at the club, he has only amassed 95 minutes of first-team minutes across four outings.

TEAMtalk reported on 4 November that a host of Championship clubs are in line to sign Clarke in January.

Barnsley, Derby, Millwall and Luton were all named as potential destinations by the outlet.

When asked if Tottenham will be thankful for the interest, Wenham told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild, “Yeah, absolutely.

“His contract only runs until 2023 so there are only 18 months left on that.

“Basically, there needs to be some movement on that. I don’t see the point of him going on loan.

“If he goes on loan then he just has 12 months left on his deal. I don’t know this for certain, but it may be that Tottenham have a one-year option on that deal.

“But in terms of his future, he is nowhere near the first team. He hasn’t played a second of senior football this season.

“I think a permanent January departure makes sense for all parties at this point.”

Clarke has made 10 appearances in the Premier League 2 this season.

He has failed to score but has registered four assists.
