Insider verdict on Kieran Tippier 'holding back' for Newcastle United after major reveal
Kieran Trippier’s intensity levels will not drop off for Newcastle United despite being named in the England World Cup squad.
That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.
As quoted by the Mirror last month (30 October), Trippier insisted he must keep performing at a “high level” to be on the plane to Qatar.
He was then included in Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad for the tournament that was named on Thursday (10 November).
“If you’re looking at Newcastle United, you’re looking at a team that has that momentum and fantastic support who will be willing the team on to a top three finish for that first half of the campaign,” Dinnery told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.
“I think Trippier has personified everything that has been good for Newcastle this year. He’s not a player I would expect to hold back in any way, shape or form.

“Case in point at St. Mary’s against Southampton, he has a bit of treatment on the back of his leg.
“When you go down with a bit of discomfort in that hamstring and you are not fully focused on the job in hand, Newcastle, and let your mind wander to England, you lift your hand up and you’re off. Nobody bats an eyelid because it’s part of the game.
“But no, he stretches it off and has a bit of work on it at half-time and goes into the second half.
“By his own admission, it was Eddie Howe’s decision to actually take him off during that game.
“There are opportunities at every juncture if you want to protect yourself to make sure you are available for the World Cup. He certainly hasn’t taken that and I would expect it to remain the same for the game on Saturday.
“You keep your fingers crossed that you are going to get through those 90 minutes unscathed and be available for England.”
