West Ham have a genuine interest in 22-year-old Barcelona centre-back, according to a club insider.

ExWHUemployee, a solid source of West Ham team and transfer news, announced the player’s name on his twitter feed, which got fans asking him whether the deal was completed.

He replied that it wasn’t completed but that the West Ham interest in the player “is genuine”.

Marlon is currently halfway through a two-year loan spell to OGC Nice from Barcelona.

This comes after the president of OGC Nice confirmed in the French news outlet Nice-Matin that Barcelona had received a £17.5million bid for the defender and that he would probably be leaving.

West Ham were named in the report although it didn’t confirm whether it was the Hammers who had put the bid in.

Football Insider verdict:

The information from ExWHUUemployee is extremely reliable so it looks like West Ham could well be the club that has put the bid in. They’re in need of new centre-backs after James Collins was released this summer. marlon joined the Barcelona B team from Fluminense in 2016 but he hasn’t been able to make the transition up to the senior team, making just three appearances for Barca. Marlon also found himself in and out of the Nice first-team until the latter part of the season when he played the last eight games in a row. he’s got speed though and it looks like he might be the first signing of the Pellegrini era. He’s a risk though and expensive for someone who hasn’t set the world alight in his career so far. If it is West Ham who have made the £17.5million bid, we would expect this one to go through pretty quickly.
