Ipswich plot move for Omari Hutchinson replacement after transfer blow

Ipswich Town are pursuing a deal for Norway winger Sindre Walle Egeli as they look to replace Omari Hutchinson.

After starring for the England Under-21s this summer, Hutchinson left Ipswich to join Premier League side Nottingham Forest.

The winger notched three goals and two assists in the top flight for Kieran McKenna’s men last term, as the Tractor Boys suffered an immediate relegation back to the Championship.

Meanwhile, Hutchinson made his Nottingham Forest debut in a 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace on Sunday, 24 August.

Ipswich Town plot Sindre Walle Egeli move amid search for Omari Hutchinson replacement

Ipswich have endured a tough start to the Championship season after drawing with Birmingham City on their second-tier return.

The Suffolk side went on to draw 1-1 with Southampton on 17 August, before being beaten 1-0 by Preston on Saturday, 23 August.

Meanwhile, the Telegraph’s Mike McGrath revealed via X on Tuesday, 26 August: “Ipswich are pushing ahead with a deal for Norway winger Sindre Walle Egeli from FC Nordsjaelland.

“The 19-year-old is seen as a huge talent in Danish football and plays on the right flank, with ITFC selling Omari Hutchinson.”

Even though Ipswich suffered relegation from the Premier League last term, earning just 22 points in the top flight, McKenna’s stock is still high at Portman Road.

Ipswich want to sign Walle Egelli

The 39-year-old previously guided the Tractor Boys to two successive promotions from League One to the Premier League, and the Portman Road faithful are hopeful that he can take them back to the top flight.

However, Ipswich’s early-season form in the Championship has not been good enough for a side who want to win automatic promotion.

Furthermore, Hutchinson excelled in the second tier for McKenna’s men during the 2023/24 season, notching 10 goals and five assists in 44 league outings.

Therefore, Ipswich must ensure that the 21-year-old’s replacement is capable of producing the goods in the Championship.

Meanwhile, Walle Egelli has scored two goals and produced two assists in six league appearances for Nordsjaelland this season.

McKenna will hope that the 19-year-old, who has made one senior appearance for Norway, can adjust to the demands of the Championship.
