'He ran straight past me' - Murty delivers verdict on Candeias celebration in Rangers win
Rangers manager Graeme Murty insists Daniel Candeias’ celebration after scoring the Gers’ second goal in the 2-1 win over Hearts “bodes well” for the Ibrox giants.
Candeias raced towards the dugout after his header flew into the top corner to double the Gers’ lead and Murty joked he will need to “wipe some custard” off his face after the 30-year-old breezed by him towards the bench.
The Gers were vastly-improved from last weekend’s 4-0 Scottish Cup humiliation by Celtic and the Gers boss admitted that he thought his side reacted “really well” against Hearts.
“Well he ran straight past me so I’ll wipe some custard off my face!” Murty told Sky Sports during their live post-match broadcast of the win over Jambos.
“Listen, they are together.
“What’s being put in the press is by people who don’t know our situation.

“The guys wanted to respond. I thought they responded really well and if they go and show solidarity like that, then it bodes well for the group.
“I’ve said this group has the talent, has the ability, has the application. We didn’t show up last week, we know that. I think we showed up today.”
The win over Hearts takes the Light Blues back into second in the Scottish Premiership and sets up a potential title party for bitter rivals Celtic when they host Murty’s side next weekend.
The Gers were the better side for long spells against Hearts and will give Murty a bit of confidence ahead of next weekend’s trip across Glasgow.
Football Insider verdict
Candeias done the same when Pedro Caixinha was under pressure and, while his tantrum at Hampden was ridiculous, you can see the winger enjoys being part of the squad at Ibrox and gets on well with his team-mates at Ibrox. Candeias’ performance was much improved and despite all the stories of widespread unrest at Ibrox – none of the players involved in bust-ups at Hampden were axed from the squad completely, other than Lee Wallace and Kenny Miller who have been formally suspended by the club.
