It gets worse for Ruben Amorim after what Chelsea player who had ‘secret medical’ has done
Ruben Amorim is edging closer to being sacked by Manchester United after their woeful start to the Premier League season.
Manchester United were beaten 3-0 by Manchester City on Sunday, 14 September, marking their worst start to a top-flight campaign for 33 years.
The Red Devils have taken just four points from a possible 12 available, with Amorim being urged to change his system or risk losing his job.
Currently, Man United’s hierarchy still have faith in Amorim, but more humiliation in the coming weeks will surely spell the end of his tenure at Old Trafford.
The 40-year-old has the worst win percentage of any United manager since Sir Alex Ferguson, and it isn’t just on the pitch where his failures are being highlighted.

Geovany Quenda had a ‘secret medical’ before joining Chelsea
Man United spent over £200million on new players during the summer, including marquee additions Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
But the Premier League giants also missed out on their fair share of talent, notably one of Amorim’s top targets, Geovany Quenda.
The 18-year-old was placed firmly on Amorim’s radar after working closely with him at Sporting Lisbon, making his senior debut under him in the Portuguese Super Cup in August 2024.
Known for his pace and trickery in wide areas, Amorim was keen to add the talented Quenda to his first-team squad and help unlock his true potential at Old Trafford.
Sadly, after coming close to reuniting with his former boss, it was reported by ESPN that Quenda underwent a ‘secret medical’ at Chelsea before signing for around £44m in March 2025 and was told he could remain at Sporting until the end of the 2025/26 season.
The Portuguese giants have since thanked Chelsea for that decision, as the fleet-footed winger is shining on the big stage.
Quenda scores his first Champions League goal for Sporting Lisbon
Shortly after finalising a transfer to Chelsea, it was revealed why Quenda rejected Manchester United, and it was because he wanted to play as a winger instead of a wing-back, something Amorim’s system doesn’t accommodate.
Amorim’s stubbornness in sticking with a three-man defence, including wing-backs, may have also cost him a generational talent.
The Portugal under-21 international has started the 2025/26 campaign in electric form with three assists in Liga Portugal. Meanwhile, in Sporting’s Champions League clash against Kairat on Thursday, September 18, the wonderkid scored his first goal in the competition and also grabbed an assist.
Considering the incredible talent he has shown on the big stage, Amorim will surely regret not being flexible with his formation, as it’s causing even more pain.
