‘It is not right…Poor’ – Exclusive: Mills reacts after major Tottenham announcement

Danny Mills insisted it is “not right” for Tottenham to reopen their training ground whilst the UK is still under strict lockdown measures.

The former Leeds and Manchester City right-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed football “is not essential work” and questioned why the Premier League think they are above the guidelines.

A club statement announced earlier this week that their state of the art training centre would reopen for select players on a rotational basis amid the Coronavirus pandemic.

The decision comes after two more Spurs players, Moussa Sissoko, 30, and Serge Aurier, 27, were forced to apologise after pictures posted by the latter showed the two breaking social distancing guidelines.

When asked by Football Insider if he supported the decision of Spurs to re-open the training ground, Mills said: “It is not right, not yet.

“The government has said essential work only and football is not essential work. It is football.

“Yes, we all want it to be played and for it to get underway again but it has to be safe.

“The timing seems poor when the whole country is still in lockdown they decide to do this.

“It seems like a scattergun approach at the moment. We all want it back but come back for the right reasons.”

Spurs followed derby rivals Arsenal in such a move, the Gunners opening their London Colney training ground last week.

Football Insider understands the Premier League could return as soon as June 6 as ‘Project Restart’ gathers speed.

This is despite the domestic seasons in France, Netherlands and Belgium all being cancelled this week.
