'It's happened again' - Exclusive: Hutton frets over 'Unfair' situation at Rangers
Alan Hutton insists that it is “unfair” that Alfredo Morelos has to deal with so much speculation surrounding his future at Rangers.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Gers defender and boyhood fan at Ibrox admits the 24-year-old has a lot on his plate after plenty of transfer talk this summer.
After he admitted that the striker’s head had been turned over a move away, manager Steven Gerrard told the Scottish Sun that he had held one-to-one talks over his performance against Bayer Leverkusen.
The hitman had been heavily linked with a move to Lille this summer, while a number of Premier League sides are said to be interested in taking him south of the border.
Hutton believes that Morelos’ situation is reminiscent of when he was touted for a move away in the January window and believes he needed a “reality check” from Gerrard to get his focus back.
“I think distracted, confused – they’re the words I’d put forward, he’s a young guy who probably wants to play at the best level possible,” Hutton told Football Insider.

“The chances are a big-money move, of course it’s going to distract you, it’s going to have your head turned a little bit, especially last season there was a lot of rumours in the January window, it didn’t happen and he looked a little bit upset and his performances showed that.
“It’s happened again this season and it’s unfair, I think it’s a shame for him because it’s a lot for him to deal with and then to have to put on performances.
I think sometimes having a little reality check from your manager, letting you know where you are and where you stand and I think that’s exactly what he got. He produced the goods at the weekend so he’ll be happy and hopefully he can build on this now.”
In other Rangers news, Hutton has been left head over heels with a new arrival at Ibrox.
