‘It’s incredible’ – Nottingham Forest fans ‘love Evangelos Marinakis’ after latest deals agreed

Nottingham Forest fans “love Evangelos Marinakis” after £150million news at the City Ground.

Forest have spent big in the transfer window this summer as they look to challenge at the top of the Premier League table again.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side looked set to qualify for the Champions League last season before a late dip in form saw them end the campaign in seventh place.

Omari Hutchinson has been Forest’s biggest signing of the summer, having joined from Ipswich Town in a £37.5million deal.

Meanwhile, the signings of Dan Ndoye, Arnaud Kalimuendo, James McAtee, Igor Jesus, Jair Cunha and Angus Gunn have taken their spending to around £150million, with Douglas Luiz also joining on loan.

Evangelos Marinakis investing heavily in Nottingham Forest

This article contains exclusive comment from Keith Wyness, former Everton, Aston Villa and Aberdeen CEO.

Forest got their campaign off to a strong start after beating Brentford 3-1 at the City Ground on 17 August.

Chris Wood grabbed a brace, while Ndoye registered his first goal for the club as Nuno’s side showed they could be a force again this season.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast before Nuno publicly revealed the breakdown in his relationship with Marinakis, Wyness said: “They’ve managed to replace the players they’ve lost.

“Kalimuendo has come in recently, McAtee, Omari Hutchinson. Three quality players again that are going to fit the Forest style of play.

“I listened to Nuno the other day saying about how they were having the great strength of a really strong breakaway team last year.

“Now he wants to try and dominate more in midfield and he’s putting together a decent squad to do it.

“Marinakis, we’ve said it many times, he’s a fighter and he’s certainly investing in the club.

“The fans must love him because he’s backing the manager and he’s going to give them a real good go.

“They started off well. The old warhorse Chris Wood again coming in to score again was amazing.

“How he keeps going is incredible.”
