Ivan Toney reacts to Yoane Wissa ‘mentality’ message after Man City fightback

Ivan Toney has paid tribute to his former teammate Yoane Wissa after he helped Brentford secure a dramatic 2-2 draw with Man City.

With Pep Guardiola’s side showing signs of resurgence in recent weeks, that upturn in form looked set to continue when they travelled to face the Bees on Tuesday night (14 January).

A brace from Phil Foden looked to have the reigning Premier League champions in control, as they led 2-0 with just nine minutes of normal time remaining.

However, Man City then endured another in-game collapse, as first Wissa and then Christian Norgaard found the net to snatch a 2-2 draw for the Bees at the death.

While this was another disappointing collapse for the visitors that left Guardiola far from happy with his players, it was a much better outcome for Brentford.

After being beaten in the FA Cup by Championship strugglers Plymouth at the weekend, a recovery such as this against Man City gave them much more to smile about.

Following the conclusion of the match, Wissa took to his Instagram page to post a series of pictures from the game, along with the caption “G-Tech mentality”.

Among those to respond was his former Brentford teammate Toney, who commented on the post with two heart-eye emojis.

Football Insider Verdict

Toney will no doubt have enjoyed seeing his former club’s fightback against Man City in this particular game.

The striker certainly knew how to get goals against Guardiola’s side during his own time at Brentford, which did help to enhance his reputation.

Given the platform the club gave him, it makes sense that he would be pleased to see them still taking results like this off one of the Premier League’s so-called “big six”.

In other news, Man City have set their sights on signing in this position in the January transfer window.
