Darren Bent was in awe of the idea that Tottenham could end up signing Norwich City defender Max Aarons.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the ex-Spurs striker admitted that he had always rated the Canaries full-back and thinks he is one of the country’s brightest prospects.
It was recently reported that Spurs had scouted Aarons ahead of the January window with Jose Mourinho being keen on him as well as West Bromwich Albion full-back Nathan Ferguson.
Bent shared that Aarons had done well in the Premier League this season and admitted it’d be a great move for him personally if he joined Spurs.
When asked about Tottenham scouting Aarons, Bent told Football Insider: “For me, he’s one of the bright sparks in this country.
“Unfortunately he plays at a time where we’re blessed with right-backs in this country, Alexander-Arnold, Wan-Bissaka, Reece James, the list is endless.
“But listen I rate him, I’ve always rated him, I watched him a lot last season in the Championship, I thought he was brilliant.
“And he’s stepped up this season and been good again so it doesn’t surprise me Spurs want him.
“As it’s the Spurs’ root, sign young English players and develop them.
“And it would be a great move for Max Aarons himself and Spurs football club.”
The 19-year-old right-back has played 17 times across all competitions for the Canaries this season.
Aarons has been at Carrow Road for the entirety of his professional career, having risen through the ranks to feature for the first-team, and is contracted to stay with Daniel Farke’s side until 2024.
In other Tottenham news, Football Insider can reveal that the club have agreed a £22million wage deal.
