‘I’ve heard from a top source’ – Newcastle United to confirm ‘excellent’ signing
Newcastle United are all set to confirm their second marquee signing of the summer transfer window according to a top source.
The Magpies have already added Anthony Elanga to their ranks, after agreeing a £55million deal with Nottingham Forest to bring the winger to St James’ Park.
However, it has been a less than positive window overall for Eddie Howe’s side, who have missed out on a number of their big targets, including the likes of Bryan Mbeumo and Joao Pedro.
Despite this, Newcastle are set to confirm the signing of Aaron Ramsdale on a season-long loan, with an option to buy included in the deal with Southampton.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has heard from one of his sources that the move is all but done.

Newcastle to get Ramsdale deal done, fans will warm to him’
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Ramsdale would be a good addition for Newcastle, and that the fans will warm to him over time.
The Magpies had looked set to sign James Trafford from Burnley, but Manchester City hijacked the deal at the last moment.
Wyness added that despite not securing Trafford, Howe will be content with his goalkeeping department as Ramsdale is more than good enough for the Premier League.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think the Ramsdale deal does make sense. I’ve heard from another top source that it is progressing very well. So we’ve got to hope that that gets done.
“I think he’s a good keeper. He was in the Premier League last year. He knows the quality that’s needed. He would be an excellent signing for Newcastle.
“He could be there for a long time as well. I remember the days of Newcastle keepers being there for many years, and so I think he could be one that the fans would warm to. I think he’s a good keeper and I think it would be a good deal for Newcastle.
“Southampton are down there looking to raise some money as well. I think they’ll have a replacement in mind as they mount their campaign in the Championship, to be a yo-yo club again. So yeah, I think the deal should get done for Ramsdale.”

‘Newcastle add England international to striker shortlist’
Meanwhile, Newcastle have reportedly added Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins to their list of transfer targets in the final month of the transfer window.
That is according to former Man United and Villa scout Mick Brown, who claims that the 29-year-old is among a number of options who could replace Isak.
Meanwhile, Football Insider exclusively revealed on 28 July that Aston Villa are open to offers for Watkins and have been surprised by the lack of interest this summer.
Tottenham and Man United have also been keeping tabs on the England international’s situation at Villa Park, but have not made concerted moves.
