‘Jack Grealish to make major sacrifice for Man City exit to Newcastle’

Man City winger Jack Grealish will have to significantly reduce his wages to secure a move to Newcastle United in the summer transfer window, according to Jeff Stelling.

The 29-year-old currently earns an estimated £300,000 a week currently at Man City. However in the search for more consistent game time, Grealish may be forced to take a pay cut.

Grealish has been linked with various moves away from Manchester in recent times, with Newcastle and Tottenham thought to be candidates to secure his services for next season.

Loss of form and ongoing injury issues has seen Grealish struggle for game time at club level and miss out on Thomas Tuchel‘s first England squad.

However, if he is to secure a move to the Magpie’s this summer in the hope to work his way back into Tuchel’s plans, Stelling believes that much-reduced terms would need to be agreed in order to get the deal across the line.

Grealish could make a shock move to Newcastle in the hunt for consistent minutes.

Grealish would need to half his current wages

Speaking live on talkSPORT [25 March], Stelling said: “Newcastle have been linked with him [Grealish].

“He is reportedly on £300,000 a week, but Newcastle’s top earner at the moment is Bruno Guimarães, who is on about £150,000 grand a week.

“That’s half of what Jack is earning so there has got to be a big amount of give from Jack’s point of view.

“I’m sure he wants to play football again.”

Where would Grealish fit at Newcastle?

Besides reducing his wages, there may be other sacrifices that Grealish needs to make if his move to Newcastle is to be a successful one.

Arguably, Grealish’s best position is playing off the left as he is able to cut inside onto his stronger right foot.

However, fellow Englishman Anthony Gordon has been a mainstay in Eddie Howe’s set up, with the attacker suiting Eddie Howe’s high intensity style.

Grealish stats 2024/25Gordon stats 2024/25
26 appearances 34 appearances
2 goals 9 goals
5 assists 6 assists
Grealish has less goal involvements than Gordon this season.

It may force Grealish into playing more centrally, which would likely see him utilise his quick feet and playmaking abilities more often.

A midfield trio of Guimarães, Joelinton and Grealish would combine all the perfect attributes for any Premier League side and provide Newcastle with some much needed added depth.

It is yet to been seen whether he would be open to accepting lower wages in the hunt for more consistent minutes, but if the opportunity arises it appears Newcastle will likely be in for Grealish‘s signature.
