Jack Grealish to return to Man City early as season-ending news emerges at Everton

Jack Grealish may never play for Everton again after sustaining a season-ending injury.

That is the harsh reality of the Man City loanee’s 2025-26 campaign, having made an incredible impact in the first half of the season, with two goals and six assists in 22 games.

Grealish featured for 90 minutes against Aston Villa, but fast-forward 12 days, and David Moyes has now revealed that the player could require surgery and is likely to be out for the rest of the season.

A summer departure from the Etihad Stadium was inevitable, as Grealish continued to fall down Pep Guardiola’s pecking order, and Jeremy Doku stepped up in his absence.

However, the Catalan could be seeing the winger much sooner than anticipated.

Jack Grealish faces an uncertain future at Everton

Premier League clubs often have clauses in contracts for when things like this happen, but it remains unclear exactly where the player will end up after suffering a brutal setback.

Unfortunately, Man City are unlikely to hold any responsibility over the player, but this injury problem will also affect them ahead of the summer transfer window.

Should his journey back to full fitness take too long, or if the medical help isn’t up to scratch, the Citizens may struggle to get him off the books at the end of the 2025-26 campaign.

Football Insider understands that Everton still want to sign Grealish despite his injury, but it is unclear whether the Toffees can afford him on a permanent deal this summer.

Man City could nurse the winger back to full health after major injury blow

The two clubs could potentially strike a different kind of deal over Grealish. Should the Toffees allow him to be treated back in Manchester, while still paying his wages, he might recover much quicker.

There is no guarantee that if he stays on Merseyside, he’ll be fit in time for the 2026-27 campaign, with Man City having a much better, more expensive treatment staff.

Either that, or the Citizens could recall the player from his loan, nurse him back to health ahead of the summer transfer window, and ship him back out on a permanent deal.

It is an extremely difficult situation for all parties involved, and not one that any of them would want to deal with. Sadly, a solution needs to be found, and a return to his parent club could be part of the puzzle.
