Jackson and Reece James react as Caicedo sends message after Chelsea injury scare

Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo has issued a new update after his side’s Club World Cup clash with Benfica, with Nicolas Jackson and Reece James among those to react.

The Ecuador international was a key figure for Enzo Maresca‘s side last season, as the Blues enjoyed some welcome success by winning the Conference League and qualifying for the Champions League.

That saw Caicedo win several prizes as Chelsea handed out their end of season awards, with both players and fans recognising his efforts.

As a result, the midfielder finds himself in something of a unique position at Stamford Bridge with club looking to make changes to their squad this summer.

It has been suggested that Caicedo is one of the only players Chelsea consider “untouchable” should offers come in, and he has once again shown why that is the case.

Moises Caicedo impresses vs Benfica

Maresca’s side are currently competing at the Club World Cup, and reached the quarter finals with a 4-1 win over Benfica on Saturday (28 June), after a long weather delay and extra time.

Caicedo produced another outstanding performance in that game, providing the assist for Pedro Neto to get his side’s third goal of the match.

That was despite Chelsea fans fearing Caicedo had picked up a serious injury after finding himself on the wrong end of a heavy challenge during the first half.

Taking to Instagram to reflect on that win, the midfielder remained in a positive mood as he wrote: “We keep dreaming Chelsea. Quarter finals soon”.

Jackson was again suspended for Chelsea after his red card in the defeat to Flamengo, but still showed his support by liking that post.

Other members of the Blues squad such as James, Malo Gusto, Marc Cucurella, Tosin Adarabioyo and Dario Essugo also did the same.

Chelsea will be relieved by midfielder update

Football Insider Verdict

While there was success for the Blues last season, they will be well aware of the fact that the club should be competing for and achieving more in the years to come.

If they are to do that in the 2025/26 campaign, Caicedo will be key to any hopes they have of doing so, given how integral he has become to this side with his performances.

It would therefore have been extremely frustrating for Chelsea to lose him to a serious injury in circumstances such as this, when there are much bigger things at stake in the coming months.

With that in mind, the sight of Caicedo still coming through the game to make such an impact will have been a welcome one for everybody connected with the club.
