Jacob Murphy sends ‘crazy’ message to Tino Livramento after Newcastle v Leicester

Tino Livramento produced an assist in under two minutes to set the tone for Newcastle United in their 3-0 victory over struggling Leicester City.

The 22-year-old has been forced to play left-back in recent weeks in the absence of Lewis Hall, with Kieran Tripper coming back into the side on the other flank.

However, not for the first time this term, Livramento proved his versatility with just one minute and 56 seconds on the clock at the King Power Stadium.

Combining with former Fox Harvey Barnes down the left, Livramento was able to pick out the run of Jacob Murphy with an excellent cross to open the scoring.

A double from Murphy and a tap-in from Barnes before half-time was enough to seal all three-points for Newcastle in their pursuit for Champions League football next campaign.

Newcastle on track for an excellent season

Football Insider verdict

Eddie Howe‘s men are on track for an excellent season, having already won their first trophy in nearly 70 years against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final, and being on course to pip Manchester City to the final Champions League spot.

The Magpie’s sit in fifth on 53 points, one point above Manchester City and level with Chelsea, having played one less than both.

Newcastle have picked up four wins and one loss in their last five league games, having beaten the likes of Brentford, West Ham and Nottingham Forest.

Newcastle’s last five league results Score
Win vs Nottingham Forest 4-3
Loss vs Liverpool2-0
Win vs West Ham1-0
Win vs Brentford 2-1
Win vs Leicester City3-0
Newcastle have picked up 12 out of a possible 15 points.

This run has seen them put themselves in the drivers seat to play in Europe’s elite club competition once more, with the possibility of them breaking into the top four when they face Chelsea at St James’ Park in early May.

It would be testament to the fine job Howe has done and give Newcastle a better chance of keeping a hold of their star players if they are to continue this run and qualify for the Champions League.
